Born and raised in the suburbs of Philadelphia, Allyson Barkan is an aspiring writer and editor currently living in New York City.  A 2009-2010 fellow for the Hellenic American Educational Foundation, she taught English literature and writing skills to students ages 11-18 in Athens, Greece when she wasn’t embarking on adventures throughout Greece and Europe.  Before moving to Greece, Allyson spent 4 years in Los Angeles earning a Bachelor’s degree in English with a minor in Theater from UCLA.  She has worked at various newspapers and magazines, including Angeleno Magazine, CosmoGirl! Magazine, Campus Circle Newspaper, and The Athens News.  She specializes in travel and entertainment writing, and has a flair for bringing even the most mundane general interest story to life.  Skeptical?  Throw an article idea her way and see what she (and her nimble little typing fingers) can do.

Since returning Stateside, Allyson is now busy catching up on documenting all her travel adventures and trying to put off writing about much more boring topics like eating leftovers and working from dawn ’till dusk where the most exciting part of the day can be attributed to an overcrowded morning subway commute.
